Constructed by the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District and opened in March 2015, Prairie Queen Recreation Area provides flood control protection to Papillion while offering another place for area residents to hike, bike, boat and fish. Prairie Queen, located near 132nd Street and Highway 370, includes 335 acres of green space and 135 surface acres of water. A 4-mile trail loop connects to Lincoln Road, with walking and bike access to Werner Park.
The reservoir is a fishing destination, designed with underwater shoals, coves, gravel for spawning beds and other features attractive to fish. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has stocked the lake with a variety of fish, including largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, red-ear sunfish and black crappie.
